Mail Delivery Time Calculator

Estimate how long a letter or package will take in the mail. Choose the USPS service and roughly how far it's travelling to see the expected delivery window and an estimated arrival date.

Quick answer: USPS delivery times depend on the service, not the exact ZIP codes. Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail take about 1–5 business days, Priority Mail 1–3 days, and Priority Mail Express 1–2 days. Longer distances land at the slower end of each range.

People often search for "how long will mail take from ZIP code to ZIP code," but USPS delivery times are set by service standards for each mail class, then adjusted for distance — not by the exact ZIP pair. This tool uses those published standards so you can estimate the delivery window, and if you enter a mailing date it projects a likely arrival date, counting the days USPS actually delivers.

USPS delivery standards by service

ServiceTypical deliveryGood for
First-Class Mail1–5 business daysLetters, bills, cards
USPS Ground Advantage2–5 business daysPackages up to 70 lb
Priority Mail1–3 business daysFaster packages
Priority Mail Express1–2 calendar daysOvernight / guaranteed
Media Mail2–8 business daysBooks, CDs, DVDs

How distance changes the estimate

Within each service, mail travelling across town usually arrives at the fast end of the range and coast-to-coast mail at the slow end. A First-Class letter across the same city often lands in 1–2 days, while the same letter sent coast to coast is closer to 4–5 days. Priority Mail Express is the exception — it's committed to 1–2 days almost anywhere in the country.

Worked example

You drop a Priority Mail package in the box on a Monday, going to a nearby state. Priority Mail's standard is 1–3 business days and a regional trip sits in the middle, so expect delivery around Tuesday–Wednesday. USPS delivers on Saturdays, so a Thursday mailing could still arrive Saturday.

Frequently asked questions

How long does mail take from ZIP code to ZIP code?
It depends on the service, not the exact ZIP codes. First-Class Mail and Ground Advantage typically take 1–5 business days, Priority Mail 1–3, and Express 1–2. Farther distances take the longer end of the range.
Does USPS deliver on weekends?
USPS delivers Monday through Saturday. Priority Mail Express is also delivered on Sundays and holidays for an extra fee.
Why is my mail taking longer than the estimate?
Holidays, severe weather, high volume (like December), and processing delays can all add days. These standards are typical windows, not guarantees, except for Express.
Is First-Class Mail or Ground Advantage faster?
They're similar — both usually 1–5 business days. First-Class is for letters and light items; Ground Advantage is for packages. Priority Mail is the faster paid step up.
