GPA Calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credit hours to get your grade point average on the standard 4.0 scale.

Grade
Credits

Your GPA is a weighted average: courses worth more credits count more. This tool uses the common unweighted US 4.0 scale — for a weighted GPA (with honors or AP bonus points), add the bonus to those grades first.

How GPA is calculated

Multiply each grade's point value by its credit hours, add those up, then divide by the total credits.

GPA = Σ (grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits
LetterPointsLetterPoints
A / A+4.0C2.0
A−3.7C−1.7
B+3.3D+1.3
B3.0D1.0
B−2.7D−0.7
C+2.3F0.0

Worked example

Four 3-credit courses graded A, B+, A−, B:

Grade points = (4.0 + 3.3 + 3.7 + 3.0) × 342.0
Total credits = 4 × 312
GPA = 42.0 ÷ 123.50

Frequently asked questions

What's a good GPA?
On a 4.0 scale, 3.0 is a solid B average, 3.5+ is strong, and 3.7+ is often considered excellent. Requirements vary by school and program.
What's the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA caps every course at 4.0. Weighted GPA gives extra points for harder classes like honors or AP, so it can exceed 4.0. This tool is unweighted; add bonus points to those grades for a weighted result.
How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?
Enter every graded course from all terms with its credit hours. The calculator weights each by credits automatically.
