How to calculate cords of firewood

Multiply the three stack dimensions to get the volume, then divide by 128 cubic feet (the size of one full cord).

Worked example

Frequently asked questions

How big is a cord of firewood?
A full cord is 128 cubic feet — a stack 4 feet high, 8 feet long and 4 feet deep of tightly packed wood.
What's a face cord?
A face cord is 4 ft high × 8 ft long but only as deep as the logs are long. With 16-inch logs, that's about one-third of a full cord.
How do I know if I got a full cord?
Stack the wood neatly, measure length × height × depth in feet, and divide by 128. If it's well under 1, you're short.
