Overtime Calculator

Work out your overtime pay and total wages. Enter your regular hourly rate, the hours worked and the overtime multiplier — time-and-a-half (1.5×) by default.

Overtime is the higher rate paid for hours worked beyond your normal schedule. The standard premium is time-and-a-half (1.5×) your regular hourly rate, though some hours or agreements pay double time (2×). This calculator adds your regular pay and overtime pay to show your total wages for the period.

How to calculate overtime pay

Overtime pay = hourly rate × multiplier × overtime hours
Total = (rate × regular hours) + overtime pay
$20/hr, 5 OT hoursOT rateOT pay
1.5× (time-and-a-half)$30.00$150.00
2× (double time)$40.00$200.00

Worked example

At $20/hour with 40 regular hours and 5 overtime hours at 1.5×: regular pay is $800, overtime pay is 20 × 1.5 × 5 = $150, for a total of $950.00.

Overtime rules of thumb

In many places, non-exempt employees earn overtime for hours over 40 in a week at no less than 1.5× their regular rate. The exact threshold and rate depend on your country, state and employment agreement, so treat this as a pay estimate and check your local rules for what legally qualifies as overtime.
