An EMI (equated monthly instalment) is the fixed amount you repay each month on a two-wheeler loan — part interest, part principal. Early instalments are mostly interest; later ones are mostly principal, but the EMI itself stays the same throughout the tenure. This calculator uses the standard reducing-balance EMI formula that banks and NBFCs apply.

How the EMI is calculated

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)ⁿ ÷ ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1)
P = loan amount, r = monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), n = tenure in months.

Worked example

A ₹1,00,000 bike loan at 10% for 36 months: the monthly rate is 0.10 ÷ 12 = 0.008333, giving an EMI of about ₹3,227. Over 36 months you repay ₹1,16,162, of which ₹16,162 is interest.

What affects your EMI

A larger loan or a higher interest rate raises the EMI; a longer tenure lowers the monthly EMI but increases the total interest you pay. A bigger down payment reduces the loan amount and so cuts both. Processing fees and insurance are charged separately and are not part of the EMI.

Frequently asked questions

Does a longer tenure reduce the total cost?
No. It lowers the monthly EMI but you pay interest for longer, so the total interest is higher. A shorter tenure costs less overall.
Is the interest rate fixed or reducing?
This calculator uses the reducing-balance method, where interest is charged on the outstanding balance — the standard for most bike loans.
Are processing fees included?
No. Processing fees, insurance and taxes are charged separately and are not part of the EMI figure.
Can I prepay to reduce interest?
Usually yes. Prepaying reduces the outstanding principal and the interest that follows, though some lenders charge a foreclosure fee.
